Botox® Cosmetic, or Botulinum toxin, is one of the most popular and most requested cosmetic procedures in the country. This is a safe, effective, quick treatment for reducing or eliminating facial lines. There is no downtime, little to no discomfort, and results last up to six months. Botox® is ideal for treating crow’s feet, frown lines, horizontal forehead lines, worry lines around the mouth, lines on either side of the nose, and lines or bands on the neck for a more youthful, rejuvenated appearance. Botox® may also be used to treat migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms of the eyes and neck.
Unlike injectable fillers which work by restoring volume to wrinkles or depressions, Botox works by relaxing the muscles responsible for certain expressions. Expressions like smiling, laughing, frowning and even looking puzzled cause the muscles of the face to contract. Over time, the repeat skin creases that occur as the muscles contract can turn to permanent wrinkles and furrows in the skin. Botox® works by erasing these marks of aging while also preventing future lines from occurring.

Face fillers are a wonderful noninvasive way of restoring volume and eliminating lines and wrinkles. As we age, we typically lose facial volume and injectable fillers can help restore the volume and augment areas of the face that we want to accentuate, like the jaw or the lips. Facial fillers are most commonly used in the lips, cheeks, lower eyelids and nasolabial folds (otherwise known as laugh lines and smile lines found between the nose and corners of the mouth). Fillers can also be used to fill in small scars, and to augment the jaw line, and the temporal hollow. Additionally, fillers can be used to correct or camouflage bumps on the nose.
Soft-tissue fillers, such as Restylane, Perlane, Juvederm, Sculptra or Radiesse can help fill in these facial lines and creases while creating a more aesthetically balanced and harmonious appearance. Fat can also be used as a filler and has the advantage of lasting permanently. Facial fillers are injected in the office during a consultation and results are seen almost immediately. Results can last as long as a year and in some case, like fat, forever. Patients experience some discomfort with the injections but they can be minimized with the use of ice and numbing agents. Some patients experience bruising that may last a few days and can be improved with the use of arnica gel and some experience swelling.

Chemical peels ultimately remove the top layer of skin, thus smoothing out fine wrinkles, decreasing discoloration and addressing pigmentation problems. Areas of wrinkly skin can also benefit from a peel or laser resurfacing procedure with the ClearLift laser resulting in a shrink-wrap type of effect. The Total FX C02 Laser is also a skin resurfacing cosmetic procedure that mimics a chemical peel. The Total FX C02 Laser consists of an Active FX laser and a Deep FX laser used together. When combined, not only can scars, sun damage, discoloration and deep lines and wrinkles be treated, but the skin is resurfaced altogether. Specifically, chemical peels help reduce and treat the appearance of dark spots and age spots. The old skin that is peeled off within a few days leaves behind a newly rejuvenated healthier looking skin, which underwent collagen regeneration and rearrangement. Chemical peels can also be used to treat under eye dark circles.

As we age our skin does not “turn over” as quickly, and we lose collagen and therefore elasticity and thickness which all results in dull and lifeless skin that may feel and look lackluster and wrinkled. Lasers are a different modality to perform the same task as peels. Other than the very light peels, which have no down time, they are inexpensive. I prefer lasers, as they are specifically targeted to your skin problem and they are more controlled with more dependable results.

Hair transplant is an amazing way to restore your hairline, fill in bald spots and even create a new hairline. The patient first needs a full evaluation with Dr. Hazen to diagnose the cause of the hair loss and determine if hair transplant is the correct treatment. There are many treatments that work for hair restoration, and sometimes oral or topical medication, injections of PRP or steroids are the correct choice for maximal benefit.
Dr. Hazen uses a state-or-the-art Follicular Unit Extraction and Transfer of single hair follicles using the world renowned NEO-Graft Technology together with the best hair technicians in the world! The idea is taking your own hair from where you have extra (the back of the head) and bringing those follicle units to where you are losing hair. The effect is natural, scarless and the cool thing is the transferred hairs will never shed!
The process takes place in the office under local, requires that you cut the back of the hair very short. The process can take up to 8 hours but typically is 5. Recovery is about 5 days, though most patients feel totally fine after 2 days. This procedure is great for male pattern baldness, thinning hair, and transmasculine patients who lose hair due to taking testosterone.
